could only think of one thing to lift my spirits – sweets. So from
Manila Doctors Hospital, I went to buy some at the nearby Patisserie,
inside Manila Pavilion Hotel.

ShangYi is my Chinese name. I don't think there's a drop of Chinese blood in my veins, but my Mandarin teacher gave her students names in Chinese. I thought that SaYong would suffice since it sounds Chinese. But she said that I couldn't use "sa" because sa (pronounced si) also means killed...So I said, never mind about holding on to my nickname :) A rose is a rose is a rosario still ...
